This is the forth year of the NCHL. Every year we have a draft in order to try to keep the league as equal as possible. Every year players and teams complain about this process. Most players would like to remain on the same team. The problem with keeping teams intact is that eventually it will be impossible to keep the teams equal. Another issue that can already been seen, most teams are now no longer playing casual hockey. The level of competitiveness is starting to move this league away from it's original design as a casual novice hockey league.

When adding your comments I'd like everyone to remember that without the NCHL most of us would have never been given the opportunity to play in "organized hockey". This league is the only place for players that want to play but do not have the skill to be part of the NOHL.

This i my first year playin in this league and so far it has been a great experiance. the competative part seems to be at a perfect level. i think the draft is a great idea since it will mix up the teams enough so the same team doesnt continue to dominate the league year after year. team Lucky might object but i have friends on all teams and wouldnt have any problem playing on any team. I think in order to to maintain an equal playing field bottom finishing teams should be able to have first pick at draft time and top finishing teams should have last pick. ( i may be a little naive to the whole process since this is my first year so if anyone wishes to fill me in on the whole process i wont be offended).

You have the essence of the draft.

The teams pick in reverse order of how they finished. Each team is suppose to have the same number of A/B/C players. Each year some teams mix things up, while others try to remain the same.

Each year the teams can reserve 6-8 players as long as they fit the skills profile. This year the top teams ended up with 5A, 5B, and 5C. While the bottom teams ended with 5A,6B, and 4C.

Of the 6-8 players teams can keep, dont know if teams are allowed to keep 5 A players. Maybe it should be you can keep 2-A, 2-B, and 2-C players, the rest must be new players. That way a team still has its core, but it mixes things up, and if everyone knows each other from playing together in previous years, you get that good clean rivalry that everyone wants.

As far as I can see their seems to be a growing hate for the Rhinos this year as well that hasnt been there before. so its good to see all teams have the ability to evolve equally at their own pace.

The Pucks have evolved backwards (from a good team to a bad team)...
