This thread is for goalie related topics. To start I was hoping that all the goalies would share their stats and stuff; and if you know any secret ways of stopping certain players, their tendencies etc. I'll start: Sadly, my GAA is at 4.46......sigh........I can't really blame my defence at all; they've been above average this year. Mostly it's because of team lucky. 19 goals in three games!! ouch I don't know alot about alot of players. But, I know #7 on the Chiefs will never, never, ever try to deke. He is a wrist shot kind of guy, and he shoots from anywhere. (Even from behind the net). So, yah,.. there ya go.

Interesting topic This is has a been a real up and down season.....about half my games are 2 goals or less, and the other half is like 5,6, or 7 goals. My goals against is 3.4. This year has seemed that I haven't made the big save when we need it, and we haven't scored the big goal when we need it. This year we have lost 3 games in the last minute. I really don't worry to much about high end players, as they are some of the most predictable players on the ice. For me, Martin of the Devils is challenging (and probably due to the fact that he has a good book on me and my style of play). Our book on you (gravy) before a game is to get alot of shots on you. You played well last game. This year as well, we have not been able to beat the teams in front of us... I do enjoy playing against the icehogs, devils, and the haze...

great thread to start up as most of the people that post on this site are goalies. Either we are more sophisticated than all the rest or we have a lot of spare time on our hands. I think it is the prior that is true... My GAA is 2.38 and have had 3 SO so far. Am I in the running for the Calder or the Vesina this year? One player that I hate giving up a goal to is Porn Stash. Gravy, on behalf of my team, I would like to appoligize for screwing up your GAA. As far as any team I enjoy playing, I just am having so much fun just playing against everyone. The close games we have had lately are more enjoyable too. Thats all I've got.

You don't have to apologize for screwing up Gravy's goals against....he would have screwed it up anyway....I don't know why he's concerned about this years average, as it is his best year ever in the league. Congrats on your 3 shut outs, as I have 1 shut out in the last 3 years...

I still have not recorded a shutout. Closest I came was against the Devils; and guess who scored the only goal with less than 5 minutes to go? The previously mentioned Martin, with his silly little deke to the back-hand, up over the glove goal that he always scores. Just so you know, that is his signature move, (I don't think he has another one). And no apologies necessary Lindbergh; I love playing against Lucky, it is a real challenge. Andy, I have been working hard to remove the self-destructive elements from my game; (you may notice I steer clear of handling the puck out of the net these days). But, you are probably right, I can screw up my GAA all by myself!! Last 4 games though, my GAA is just over 2. So there is hope for me yet. ps. The Chiefs and Devils are my favourite teams to play against. With Rhinos, Pucks and Stickmen getting honorable mention......

Hey guys, I thought I would chime in on this subject, especially after hearing atg speaking from the heart and not just his same ol' cheap one liners.lol Quite a nice change. Keep it up Anyways, back to the subject at hand. My GAA this year is 2.89, which is much better than the previous two years. I have only had one shutout this year so far, matching my total from last year, but we still have 6 games left, who knows. The games are a lot more evenly matched than previous years and you really never know who your going to be playing night to night with all of the whoring going on with spares these days. The Lucky seems to be the team you want to beat, but thats just because of their record, we always have good games with them. Other than that, the Chiefs are easy, the Hogs are ugly, the Crushers goalie has fancy pads and everybody else is forgetable. Good luck to all the goalies, you know that you are the wind beneath your teams wings.

This may be of interest to you guys. If you go to "vaughnhockey.com", click on goaltending resources, scroll down a little, and click on various subjects. They have lots of goalie info. I have watched the Gold in the net video series, and you can watch them for free if you go to the library and sign them out. (Of course Lindbergh propable never has been in a library before ). I have taken Gold in the Net lessons, and the 1 hour lessons are intensive (and exhausting), but you can work on specific parts of your game (for instance, one lesson I had we worked just on wrap arounds, another just on angles). The only drawback is the cost. If interested, I will be taking private lessons with the City, and I can notify you guys, as it would be better to share the lesson, as once you get exhausted, it is hard to build on your strengths if your tired (even 30 minutes of non-stop work can be punishing). The city lessons are much more affordable, and usually are available late summer Pet peeve - this is partly my fault (for not communicating better), but team-mates got to do a better job of warming up goalies, the idea is to make us feel the puck, not slide the puck post side and make us do the splits... till next time...

Nobody told me that it was a requirement to be taking lessons. I must have missed that memo when I registered last May. I will definately take a look at the website to chek out how to really play the position properly. The city lesson sounds appealing. As for the warmup thing it would be probably be a good idea for you to be one of the first guys on the ice and not the last. Its also tough when half the players can't hit the net or like ATG said they are doing the "lets try and deek the goalie" play. That really helps warming us up. ATG you'll have to show me how you do the splits too as I can't and it would probably be quite humerous watching you too. Lindbergh out......

Lessons are definitely not a requirement, as most goalies in our league, and in the nohl haven't taken them either. I took lessons because I wanted to have a better understanding of the position, and when I played as a kid, the position was played differently (more stand up, but I think todays methods of butterflying and taking the bottom of the net away are better). I also took them because I wanted to be better... If using a resource makes you 2 or 3% better, that may add up over a season to 10 less goals over-all...

I am not a Goalie (I just score goals about as often as goalies do) but this has been a very interesting discussion. Kind of gives one a better appreciation for goalies and their dedication and passion for their position. (before I just thought you were all a little nuts...trying to get in the way of pucks and all) Thank you Frank

Atg is right about the warm-ups. Fortunately for me, the Icehogs have been much better about doing a proper warm-up this year. For those players who don't know, this is what we want: Shoot the puck hard, but shoot it right at us. We just want to see the puck coming, and we want to feel it hit us. It really does help prepare a goalie for a game. And Frank, thanks for the kind words. We are not as crazy as some players think we are. ps. Where's the rest of the goalies?? C'mon Carl, Vinnie, Dave, Mike, everyone...... Can anyone beat Lindberghs 2.38 average? (I know he's on a good team but he still faces breakaways and odd-man rushes like the rest of us.)

we do the corners drill but I only get to face half the shots because the other half either don't make it on the stick or bounce off their stick and veer off to center ice..... we are all a little off ,but that is in a superior sort of way. An elite brotherhood of sorts...

Amen bruther! Elite is definitely the right word. (and if I was on Lucky I would have 4 shutouts, not just 3. lol) To the other goalies: you are in the club, whether your average is 2.2 or 10.2 we're all working towards the same goal, and we all have the same obstacles to overcome. This thread is where you can let out your frustrations or talk about your great saves, or whatever..... it would be nice to hear from the other goalies.
